Love and Hate in Jamestown
Terrence Malick's The New World
The New World, the 2005 film set in the Jamestown colony, was written and directed by Terrence Malick ("The Thin Red Line"). Colin Farrell starred as John Smith. Pocahontas was played by Q'Orianka Kilcher. Also appearing were Christopher Plummer as Christopher Newport and Christian Bale as John Rolfe.
In contrast with the historical account in Love and Hate in Jamestown, the film The New World was a generally fictionalized telling of the characters and events of Jamestown. The settings, costumes, and other aspects of the film's art direction were generally true to the historical record, however. Much of the filming took place near the original Jamestown site.
